Walking around Clay / Salthouse Beach / October 6th / 1-4pm
A ceramic workshop inspired by archival footage of Nigerian Potter Lady Kwali coiling a pot.
Taking place in the vast openness of Salthouse beach, this workshop offers the opportunity for participants to create a vessel from clay, but without a flat surface or a turn table. Instead coils will be made in the air and pots will be elevated on wooden pillars to walk around. The backdrop of the growing pots continually repeating themselves as you walk in a circle, whilst providing an unintentional performance to other beach users.
This approach to using clay will encourage us to step away from our comfort zones and reconsider today’s ceramic processes.
*Vessels made will be fired and glazed on request at an additional cost.
£65 Materials, tools and cake included
